South Africa has been holding prayer vigils throughout the night for former President Nelson Mandela at the hospital where he is being treated and outside his former home in Soweto.
Crowds were singing and saying prayers for the health of Mr. Mandela, on what is now his night 20 at a hospital in Pretoria.
The first black president of South Africa - the symbol of the struggle against apartheid - is suffering from inflammation of the lungs.
Mike Wooldridge reports.
