Ponting to retire from ALL cricket in this year



Ricky Ponting will retire from all forms of cricket in October.

Australia's former captain retired from Test cricket in December last year to bring his international career to Unhaah but he continued to play at the local level since then.

Ponting, who currently plays for Surrey in all three forms of the game, will retire after playing for Mumbai Indians in the Champions League in October.

He said Tasmania's 38-year-old: "While I'm enjoying my cricket as much as ever, and it feels just like the right time to finish the play.

'My body and mind are in great shape, and I know I'm really going to enjoy these last few months before the next phase of life begins.'

Has played cricket Ponting non-stop since his retirement from international football, and expressed his pride to win the Sheffield Shield - equivalent to Australia from County Championship - this year.

Ponting will play for Surrey until the end of July before heading to the West Indies to play for tropical sea turtles Antigua in the Caribbean inaugural Premier League.

The batsman then played for Mumbai Indians - who were represented in this year's IPL - in the Champions League in October, before calling it a day.

Ponting says he is excited at the prospect of spending more time with his family and on the golf course once he retires.

'I am excited about what lies ahead in the future, "he said.' We are moving to Melbourne, which will serve as a new beginning as a family and lead a more normal life.

'I will be able to spend more time with family and friends, playing golf more often and see more of the North Melbourne footy games.

'Rianna and I will continue working in the construction of the Ponting Foundation, and with more time on my hands, and I intend to spend more time with children with cancer and their families.

'I'm considering a couple of options in the media for cricket and I am very fortunate to have a wonderful group of business partners that I will continue to work with.

'My CV come out in late October, so I've also got a busy few months on a book tour when I come back. I got a taste of the demands of the field out of the training, guidance and leadership in Mumbai. I would like to do more of this in the future. '

Ponting played 168 Tests and 375 international matches for one day for his country, averaging 42.03 with the bat 51.85 respectively.

He will play in the Surrey County Championship match against Yorkshire in هيدينغلي as of Friday.
